Brecon Mountain Rescue Team has experienced yet another busy period, as they remain on course for their highest callout total in a calendar year.

Recently the team were called out to Whitton by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service to assist with a casualty who had suffered an injury on September 13. The team was stood down en route as Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust and MAWW Fire and Rescue were first to arrive on scene.

Also on Saturday, 13 September, the team went to Claerwen Dam to assist two cyclists, one of whom, in difficult terrain, had suffered a knee injury. The cyclists were still mobile and after confirming their location with Phonefind, a team member was able to locate them and assist them back to their vehicle.

The next day, Sunday 14 September, they were called out the Pen y Fan area where two fell runners had got cold and started to feel unwell. Members of the public assisted the casualties and tried to get them warm before the team could reach them; Brecon Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT), assisted by Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, arrived shortly after in very poor weather conditions, and after making an assessment, the team promptly evacuated the casualties back to the team’s control unit. There, they were warmed and assessed further, before members at Central returned them to their vehicle.

BMRT were called out to the Pen y Fan area again on Saturday, 20 September, to assist Central Beacons MRT with locating three missing persons and their dog who had taken a wrong turn whilst descending the mountain. The persons were located safe and well and were escorted off the mountain to their vehicle at Pont-ar-Daf.

The team were called to assist a couple who had got lost and cold whilst walking in the dark from Cwm Llwch to Corn Du on September 23. Sensibly, they called for help, and the team located the couple and evacuated them safely to their vehicle at Pont-ar-Daf.
