Brecon Rotary Club has announced the successful applicants in the third round of their Community Chest Scheme. The scheme allows local clubs and organisations an opportunity to bid for grants of up to £500 to support projects to enhance community life in and around Brecon. Projects were welcome from any age group or section of the community.

The successful recipients of the grants were approved by Brecon Rotary just before Christmas. Six awards were made totalling £2,650, and the cheques were presented by the Rotary Club president, Hayley Ridge-Evans, to most of the winners at a dinner on January 14.

Successful applicants of the awards were: Llanfaes CP School to enhance the outside learning area, especially for the use of younger children; Brecon Jazz Music Trust to provide a free public concert at the opening of the 2019 Brecon Jazz Festival; Watton Allotment Association to rebuild raised beds, using recycled plastic boards, for people who would find it difficult to manage a standard plot; Brecon Phoenix Boxing Club to purchase interlocking rubber matting/flooring for the revived club catering largely for young people; Llyswen and Boughrood Show to create an exhibition about the community to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the show in 2019; The Brecon Hive Community Interest Company to purchase materials and equipment to install totem poles with a peace theme in the sensory garden, with help from local college pupils.

The principal objective of the Community Chest Scheme is to make a difference to people’s lives in the Brecon area.
