Large areas of Brecon town centre were sealed off on Sunday as police investigate the unexplained death of a soldier in the early hours of the morning.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the man was a soldier and said early indications are that the death is not related to terrorism.
Police are appealing for information after the man was taken to hospital in the early hours and later died. Police want information from anyone who was in the area of Lion St between 12.30-1am.
A Dyfed-Powys Police statement said: "Police are investigating the death of a man in Brecon."Officers received a report of an unconscious and injured male discovered on Lion Street at around 1am this morning (Sunday, May 8)."He was conveyed to hospital by ambulance but sadly has since passed away."The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and a police investigation is on-going. The scene has been preserved as part of the investigation."Police in Brecon are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Lion Street, Bethel Square, Tredegar Street and High Street between 12.30am and 01.30am or has any information that could assist with the inquiry to call police on 101 immediately quoting reference number DP-20160508-024."An Army spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident involving the death of a soldier in Brecon. Dyfed-Powys Police are investigating and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
