TEMPORARY traffic lights are to be placed on one of the main access roads into Brecon town centre for four weeks.
Traffic will also be prevented from turning left from Llanfaes Bridge into Watergate Street while a £119,000 scheme, to improve the wastewater network, is completed.
Water company Dwr Cymru Welsh Water has announced it is to carryout work at the junction between Ship Street, Watergate Street and Market Street, from Sunday, January 20.
The work had been delayed from November after the company failed to give Powys County Council sufficient notice.
The possibility that the work could have been carried out in the busy weeks before Christmas had angered many businesses in the area who feared a detrimental impact on trade.
While the work is carried out temporary four-way traffic lights will control the flow of traffic and there will be no left turn into Watergate Street from Bridge Street.
Welsh Water says this will be clearly signposted and access for residents will be maintained.
The not for profit company is putting its plans for the work on show at The Castle Hotel, Brecon on Monday, January 14 between 3pm and 7pm.
Members of the public are invited to drop in and see for themselves what is planned. Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions about the improvement work.
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's capital delivery manager, Martin Kilroy said: "We are committed to tackling the causes of wastewater flooding and this investment will boost the capacity of our system to cope during poor weather conditions and reduce the risk of it becoming overloaded.
"Whilst we are working there will be no impact on the water or wastewater service to local people, and we will try to get the job completed as quickly as possible. We know that our work can cause inconvenience, but this is essential work that will help alleviate flooding problems. This investment will benefit the area for years to come.
"All residents are invited to our public information event on January 14 where our team will be able to explain this project in detail and answer any questions they may have about the improvements planned."
