This Friday, six seasoned shearing veterans from Breconshire will step through the iconic arch of Cnewr Crai to take on an eight-hour charity shearing marathon.
The event, supported by James Lloyd and his family, promises a day filled with skill, endurance and fun.
The challenge will see William Workman, Ian Matthews, Nick Bishop, Howell Williams, Eifion Morgan, and Hefin Price - many of whom were former shearing record holders - take on the renowned Cnew Brecknock Hill Cheviots.
These hardy sheep will provide a fitting test for the experienced shearers as they aim to raise funds for two important local causes: Prostate Cancer Wales, which supports men affected by the disease, and the Brecknock Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (RWAS) Feature County 2026.
In addition to watching the veterans in action, visitors can try shearing a single sheep themselves. For a donation of £25, shepherds can experience the challenge firsthand—a chance that is nearly fully booked due to popular demand.
The event will run from 8am to 5pm, with free admission and refreshments available throughout the day. It will conclude with a social gathering, offering participants and supporters the chance to celebrate together.
The six shearers expressed deep gratitude for the generous backing from local businesses and friends across the region, whose support has been vital in making the event possible.
Best wishes to the “Super Six” as they take on this demanding challenge to raise awareness and funds in the name of charity.
