The streets of a Radnorshire town are set to be filled with music and fun this summer, with the return of a popular festival event.

After a two-year hiatus, Rhayader Carnival will make a triumphant return this July,

The week-long event will run from Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 17, with the carnival itself set to take place on Saturday, July 16.

The carnival will boast a bumper programme of activities for all ages, including a vintage show, a quiz night, the Gwastedyn hill race, the wheelbarrow race, the ’It’s a Knockout’ competition and a music event.

Organisers of the carnival are hoping to see the streets packed out for the carnival itself, which will be followed by a fun afternoon at the Groe Park in Cwmdauddwr.

Despite being unable to hold Rhayader Carnival in-person for two years, organisers have held successful virtual events. The carnival committee was recently awarded the Ian Charlsworth Calon Award at the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO awards last year.

Chairman of the carnival committee James Stuart said: "We cant wait to be back! Rhayader Carnival brings the community together it brings people home to celebrate with family and will undoubtably give people the lift we all need after two challenging years without a carnival."
