Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones is urging everyone to show their support for small retailers this Christmas by shopping locally.

Speaking ahead of Small Business Saturday today - December 4 - Ms Jones called for shoppers to show their gratitude to retailers who had helped the vulnerable during the Covid pandemic.

Last year £1.1 billion was spent with small retailers on Small Business Saturday. This is money which stays in local communities, providing jobs for young people and keeping our local high streets flourishing.

Ms Jones said: “Small businesses are incredibly important to the constituency, many are family run and have a core place on our high street.

“Spending in our local high street directly benefits our communities, from our local butchers, green grocers, beauticians, bookstores and our favourite takeaway, many have gifts/vouchers that we can purchase for Christmas. It is so worthwhile thinking about shopping local this Christmas if you can.

“We also shouldn’t forget we have a wonderful selection of Markets running in Brecon and Radnorshire all offering fresh produce, quality food, crafts, gifts and much more. All have super Facebook pages with regular updates, introductions to stall holders, events and contact information.

“Our smaller retailers really went above and beyond this last year. Spending your money with them will make a huge difference so please do go local this Christmas.”
