THIS Friday’s match between Wales and France in Paris sees the start of this year’s Six Nations Championship and, as is customary at this time of year, the beginning of Brian and Lorna Keylock’s annual rugby shirt raffle to raise money for Cancer Research Wales.

The charitable pair are a fixture in Brecon town centre selling tickets in their ‘Tardis’ before Wales’ matches. This weekend’s prizes are two Wales and France shirts and a special Six Nations souvenir shirt.

Brian, known in the town as ‘Butch’, has hinted he will be unveiling a new Tardis, which has been especially made by “a team of engineers from the RAF” because the old one was getting to heavy.

Butch and his team of raffle ticket sellers will be out this evening (Thursday, January 31) and tomorrow (Friday, February 1) because of the Friday game. For all the other weekends they will revert to being out on Fridays and Saturdays.

So who will win this year’s Championship? Butch reckons it could be Wales. He said: “My money’s on the dragons from Wales. The biggest threat, I think, will come from the soft-talking, easygoing Irish.”
