Des Parkinson has described the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election as “democracy in action”.

The candidate for the Brexit Party was the first to arrive at the counting centre at around 9.45pm followed by Lady Lily the Pink of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party and then Labour candidate Tom Davies.

Mr Parkinson said: “I’m pleased to be here in my part of the world. It’s democracy in action really.

“I think it’s too early to call what the results may be for us yet, but its seems to be a race between The Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. Then it seems to be us following them, and then Labour.

“We’re taking votes from adopted parties. We’ll just have to see how it goes.”

Mr Parkinson has been active on Twitter during his campaign in the run-up to tonight’s count, especially during the last two or three weeks.

When asked by a Brecon & Radnor Express reporter, he said he felt it would be fair to describe his Twitter campaign as “passionate”.

He said: “I think it would be fair, yes. If I have a go at anything, I’ll have a proper go at it – it’s how I’ve always been.”
