Brecon residents have been calling for a pathway which connects the town between Cerrigcochion Lane and the Leisure Centre to be cleaned up, improved and maintained.
The Powys County Counncillor for Brecon, Liz Rijnenberg seized the opportunity to show the poor condition of the much used pathway to Cllr. Aled Davies, Deputy Leader of Powys council when he was on a visit to the Mount Street Schools this week.
Cllr Liz Rijnenberg, who is also a Brecon Town Councillor, said: “Children of all ages use this path to get to Brecon High School, The Leisure Centre and Ysgol y Bannau. Parents have been struggling to get small children and pushchairs through the mud and puddles. The primary schools in Brecon escort children along this path to use the Leisure Centre for swimming lessons. It is not acceptable to leave it like this and it is very difficult to pin down which department at the council is responsible for inspecting and maintaining it”.

Children going to the High School previously went via steps on Cerrigcochion Lane to avoid the main road but this has now been closed off due to the demolition of the old High School.
Fellow town councillor Mark Perry, who knows the location well said: “This is a really well used pathway and local people do their bit by litter picking around the area. The Council can also do their bit and keep it in good order”.
Cllr Rijnenberg said that Cllr. Aled Davies told her that it was a “lovely area” but agreed some work was needed on the pathway. He said this could be easily done, and he would identify which department is responsible.
