THE fifth annual Newbridge on Wye carnival took place in its new venue on the village green for the first time.

The carnival committee thanked the Newbridge Football Club and Pip Samuel for all their help over the years for the use of the football ground and clubhouse, but following many local requests the event has been brought back this year to the centre of the village.

The carnival queen Maude Chance was crowned by County Councillor Claire Mills. The queen’s attendants were Maisie Samuel and Edie Allpress.

There was a fine turn out of floats and many fancy dress entrants which were judged by Lia Price and Anna Jarvis from the Builth Wells carnival committee.

The new Nigel Parkinson Trophy donated by his family was awarded to the Golden Lion Darts team float entitled “Life’s a Beach”. The award for the best children’s float went to ‘The Newbridge Terror’.

Following the judging and crowning of the carnival queen there was a grand procession around the village.

This was followed by an afternoon full of free entertainment for the children and fun for all, when those present were able to enjoy many side stalls including craft items, local organisations, including the Wings of Wales Falconry display, the Wye Valley Axe Men, as well as children’s entertainers, a bouncy castle and more. During the day there was a new booklet launched on the history of Newbridge on Wye. The booklet is entitled “Newbridge on Wye Past and Present” Committee chairman Adam Taylor said “It was one of the best Newbridge on Wye carnivals and the change of venue was well worth doing especially to see all the support the event was given”.Full Carnival Results on Page 6 of this weeks' Brecon and Radnor Express.
