Wales’ First Minister Carwyn Jones has set out the details of the agreement reached with Brecon and Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams for joining the government as education secretary.

In letters between the First Minister and Ms Williams, they agreed to work together on proposals including an extended nurse staffing levels law and the introduction of a ’rent-to-own’ housing model.

The agreement also includes a small grant scheme to support Welsh agriculture, plans to put an end to mental health discrimination and a funding floor for future local government settlements.

As cabinet secretary for education, Ms Williams is also tasked with reducing infant class sizes, expanding the pupil deprivation grant and raising teacher standards.

Mr Jones said: Kirsty has a key role in driving forward a world-leading curriculum and raising standards across the profession. I look forward to working with Kirsty to continue to improve Wales’ educations sector."

Ms Williams said: "This is an amazing opportunity to shape the way we educate our children by developing a world-leading curriculum and raising standards across the board."
