A cat which went missing over 30 miles from home has been found safe and returned to his owners.
The dark grey cat called Rio managed to get in the car with a woman who was visiting his owner’s neighbours and travelled to the Whitton area of Knighton from his home in Whitecross, Hereford.
The cat had jumped out of the car in Whitton at the woman’s house on Thursday, February 28.
However on Saturday, March 9 the tomcat was spotted in a field next to the house. The neighbour of the woman who Rio accidentally hitchhiked with spotted the feline while she was in her garden.
Owner Amy Bedford said: “Her next door neighbour was out having a fag in the garden and saw this grey cat in the field next to hers.
“She wasn’t sure if it was him so she ran in and got the missing poster we gave her last week to check and went back out with some food to try to coax him towards her.
“It took her ages but she said she managed to grab him. We are over the moon.”
The appeal for Rio ramped up when RSPCA Herefordshire tweeted about him which was then shared 43 times including by Dyfed-Powys Police’s rural crime team.
On Monday, March 4 an RSPCA spokeswoman said on Twitter: “His family are desperately worried as he doesn’t know the area at all.”
Ms Bedford has thanked everyone who has kept an eye out for Rio in the ten days he was missing.
