A 12-year-old boy from Brecon is close to completing a 111-mile charity swim – the distance from his home to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he receives treatment for a lifelong liver condition.
Aiden Boka has been swimming in stages and will finish the challenge with a celebration swim at Brecon Leisure Centre on Sunday, August 3. The event will include a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses.
The swim was initially planned to raise money for a Klaxon bike attachment - a device that converts Aiden’s wheelchair into an electric bike so he can play more easily with friends.
Aiden’s incredible journey is now coming to an end and he now has just five miles left to swim.
Having already raised enough for the Klaxon bike attachment, Aiden has now generously pledged to donate any additional funds to charities that support children with hidden disabilities.
Aiden’s mum, Annabelle told the Brecon & Radnor Express: “Aiden is now coming to the end of his 111-mile swim challenge - which is amazing! We only have about five miles left to go.
“Honestly, I never thought we’d actually get this far, and it’s such an unbelievable feeling.
“He has now raised the money needed for the Klaxon bike attachment - which is such a huge achievement! He’s decided that any extra money raised from this point on will go to charities that support children with hidden disabilities.
“We’ll also be holding a raffle on the day, with fantastic prizes donated by local businesses - and every penny raised will go to the charities.”
“We’ve already started selling raffle tickets, so we’re hoping to raise as much as we can in the lead-up to the big day,” she added.
