A 100-YEAR-OLD celebrated her centenary with a glass of Baileys in Brecon.
Marion Williams, who has always lived in the Brecon area, celebrated the milestone birthday on Friday at Trenewydd Bupa Care Home surrounded by her friends and family.
Presented with a large cake from her granddaughter Louise Williams who also works at the care home, Marion opened her cards including from the Queen, the Welsh Government First Minister Mark Drakeford, and a telegram from the UK Secretary of State Amber Rudd.
Louise, 36, said: “She’s had her hair done specially for the celebration today, and she had a Baileys last night to celebrate. She seems to be enjoying all the attention today.”
Marion’s daughter 73-year-old Betty Davies said that she had been a farmer’s wife who had grown up on a farm near Garthbrengy.
The centenarian was married to her husband John for 44 years until he died in 1992 and they had five children. Marion now has nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Marion and farmer John used to supply the Castle Hotel in Brecon with items like eggs, milk, cream and chickens from the farm.
Betty said: “They lived two farms apart and in those days there were no buses, but they used to meet up at local events I think.
“She was also the matron of the Children’s Home near this home, and they all loved her there.”
Betty said she felt her mum’s secret to long life was that she always worked hard and got plenty of fresh air.
Marion celebrated with a buffet and live entertainment from singer and pianist Lyndon Jones.
