On Tuesday, 11 August, Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team received a call from Dyfed-Powys Police, to assist the rescue of a person who had fallen at Clun Gwyn Isaf waterfall in Bannau Brycheiniog.

The team received the call at 3.50pm, where they were told of the casualty’s injuries to their head, neck and spine.

The rescue team worked with the Welsh Ambulance Service, the Welsh Air Ambulance, and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service, to treat the casualty, who was then packaged and winched out of the gorge aboard a Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue Helicopter St Athan, and then flown to hospital.

A few days before (Sunday, 9 August), Central Beacons Mountain Rescue were called to an 11.00am request to assist at Waterfalls Country where a walker, who had slipped on a rock, dislocated their shoulder.

With assistance from their partner they had made some progress out of the gorge but were experiencing too much pain to walk further. After full assessment and pain relief from the Remote Rescue Medics, the gentleman was slowly escorted to their vehicle for an onward journey to hospital.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team also experienced callouts to Bike Park Wales in the week, aiding a young mountain bike rider with a fractured ankle and another rider with spinal and chest injuries.

A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: “We wish all our casualties speedy recoveries from their injuries.”
