ON Friday, September 1 a charity ball was held at the Castle of Brecon Hotel in aid of Brecon Dial-a-Ride.

Dial-a-Ride is celebrating its 40th year since being formed by three disabled men and the evening was a celebration of all the good work the charity does in and around Brecon. A short ‘fly on the wall’ documentary of the service was shown before dinner was served, to give the attendees a clear understanding of what the service means to those who use it. The guest speaker, Shane Williams, entertained the guests after dinner with interesting and humorous descriptions of his rugby career and did a Q and A with varying questions regarding his professional rugby career including “Would you coach the Welsh Rugby team?” to which the room was pleased to hear his reply of “Yes”. He was then kind enough to make his way around the room for people to take photos of themselves with their welsh hero.

There was then a raffle followed by an auction, conducted by Ryan Williams of McCartney’s. The evening then really got moving to the sound of ‘4C’ who got everyone up on the dance floor until it was time for carriages.

The evening was a huge success with an excellent two-course meal provided by the chefs at the Castle, the waiting staff were most efficient and helpful. Everything ran smoothly and was extremely well organised by Tim Belcher who decided to raise money for this local charity that had helped his wife’s grandmother. Brecon Dial-a-Ride would like to thank not only everyone who came along on the night and helped raise over £4000 but to those who donated such sought after items for the auction.

We at Dial a Ride cannot thank Tim and his family enough for organising such a fabulous and memorable evening and for the impact such an amount raised will have on keeping our much loved and needed buses on the road.

An easy way to help support Brecon Dial-a-Ride and keep our much loved buses running and serving the local community is to become a sleeping member for just £10 per year, please contact the office on 01874 624060.
