A Powys organisation has revealed its unique way to help with the cost of living crisis.
Powys Pets in Need is a charity that aims to assist with the financial struggles that many families across the county face by donating pet food.
It has seen them donate almost 160,000 meals to various homes across the last two years - but they believe the situation is getting worse.
Michael Le Clerc, co-founder, and treasurer of Powys Pets in Need said: “We have been going for just over 2 years now, we have over 200 beneficiaries that we help, and lately more and more people that we helped in the past are coming back asking for support.
“Since we started, we’ve donated something around 155,000 pet meals, but now our phone is going off more and more, even coming from people that aren’t on benefits, I think it’s clear a lot more people are struggling than they ever did before.
“We have quite a bit of stock for Christmas but we expect it to get worse.”
The charity has managed to bring this service to life through the use of collection boxes, as well as partnering with various pet food suppliers.
But whilst the organisation is a clear example of the brilliant human spirit, Michael claims that the situation is dire for many families.
“You have to look at it like we are helping families feed themselves, you’ll get some people who will put feeding their pets over themselves and then they’ll either not be eating nutritious meals, or they’ll not be eating at all, which is a terrible shame,” said Michael.
