Children at Llanbedr Primary School have set a shining example for youngsters the world over as they did their bit collecting food to help those in need in the community.
Each year approximately 60 Christmas food hampers are distributed by Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau to the elderly in the community, and the food that the Llanbedr pupils have collected and generously donated will be used towards providing this support service.
Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau is a charitable organisation established in 1992 to promote voluntary action within the community and support the development of local voluntary sector initiatives.
The Bureau continues this work by supporting those clients who are unable to access community services and acts as an information resource on community organisations.
The Burea also works closely with other voluntary and statutory organisations and are active members of Powys Network of Volunteer Bureau/Community Support Projects.
The Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau also have four very active community projects: Going for Gold Duke of Edinburgh Project, Community Car Scheme, Powys Befrienders & Hi-Society Defibrillator Project.
For the past year, due to the Covid pandemic, their work at the Volunteer Bureau has increased with the undertaking of additional services to help people who are shielding or isolating due to the pandemic.
These additional services have continued to be provided and include the collecting and delivering of prescriptions, food shopping, posting mail and parcels, as well as increased transport requests from members of our community who require assistance in travelling to Bronllys Hospital for their COVID-19 vaccinations.
