Cantorion Llandrindod received unexpected and wonderful news at the end of their singing programme for 2025.

The mixed voice choir, based in Llandrindod Wells, is the only shortlisted nomination from Wales, and one of just four shortlisted community music groups for the prestigious 2026 Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award.

The RPS annual awards celebrate achievements in the previous classical music season, and, for the Inspiration Award, shortlist from nominations across the United Kingdom to four non-professional groups.

The choir is proud of the performances and outreach work they have done under the direction of their Musical Director Hilary Cox.

Cantorion Llandrindod is based in the beautiful rural area of Mid Wales and although the region is sparsely populated the choir is privileged to have four composers associated with the group, which helps to bring new and ambitious programming to their work.

However, their music director had always wanted to promote the creativity of women and this vision was realised in 2025 with their concert ‘Voices of Wales - Women in Focus’. They are continually challenged to take on new works to bring to their audience, and following their recent autumn concert ´Memories - reflections on life' the choir received thanks for sharing new moving and uplifting music.

The group are thrilled to have been nominated for the Inspiration Award, and to be the only Welsh nomination on the shortlist is a huge honour. The award ceremony will take place at the Southbank Centre in London on March 12.

The winner of the RPS Inspirational Award is chosen by public vote. Voting is open to the public until 11am , Monday, February 1, 2026 by visiting: www.royalphilharmonicsociety.org.uk
