Singer Charlotte Church’s efforts to rejuvenate a mid Wales mansion once owned by fashion designer Laura Ashley will feature in a new television series which started last week.

Charlotte Church has spent her whole life savings, £1.5 million, on a six-bedroom mansion, called Rhydoldog, near Rhayader, with the hope of transforming it into a “healing retreat and wedding venue”.

The “gorgeous, rambling rural property” used to belong to Welsh fashion designer Laura Ashley, but has since fallen into disrepair.

A TV show documenting the “riskiest project she’s ever undertaken”, called Charlotte Church’s Dream Build, premiers at 9pm tonight (Tuesday, 11 January) on Really, or on discovery+.

A spokesperson for Discovery+ said: “We follow Charlotte as she attempts a massive renovation, converting derelict Rhydoldog into a healing retreat and wedding venue.

“Charlotte has just over a year to transform the property and open her business before she runs out of cash.

“Hotel owner and dad, James, is on hand for advice as Charlotte wrangles this huge project, whilst juggling family life with her three children and husband, Jonny, the forest school she runs, and her long awaited return to performing.

“As the budget and build spiral out of control, Charlotte’s faced with unexpected challenges that could jeopardise her dream.”

In a post on social media, Charlotte said: “I have some wondrous news to share, my new show Dream Build is finally airing this Tuesday on Really and discovery+!

“I cannot wait to share this incredibly exciting new venture with you all, and have you follow along the journey with me!”

Charlotte Church’s Dream Build will air on Really at 9pm Tuesday evenings on Sky Channel 142 or Freeview number 17.
