THE Llandrindod Wells Children’s Eisteddfod was staged at Holy Trinity Church recently.

Four schools took part on Eisteddfod Day and Crossgates School also entered the off stage competitions which were judged prior to the Eisteddfod.

The Eisteddfod was opened by the committee chairman, Rev’d Robert Thomas who welcomed and introduced the adjudicators, Ydwena Jones for Literature and Delyth Blainey Taylor for Music. They had many difficult decisions during the day with some competitions having as many as 21 competitors.

The Eisteddfod Committee valued the help of a Junior Committee when deciding on the topics for the off stage competitions and several of these committee members helped Councillor Jon Williams the Town Mayor, when presenting the prizes. The Early Years age-groups were presented with their prizes by Oswyn Blakeway, the Years 3 and 4 prizes were presented by Astrid Harrop and the years 5 and 6 prizes were presented by Tilly Lawrence and Nia Thomas.

There were four school choirs competing for the Llandrindod Wells Town Council Perpetual Cup. This was won by Llanfihangel Rhydithon School and presented by Councillor Jon Williams the Llandrindod Wells Town Mayor.

Jon Williams and his son Ben worked tirelessly for the Eisteddfod, setting up the church the previous night and moving chairs and piano etc. Working throughout the day and helping to move all the furniture back afterwards. The committee appreciates this and wish to thank them both publically. Ben had photographed all the artwork, made a power point presentation and set up the equipment so that parents and children could enjoy seeing the children’s work on the screen. Ben was presented with a gift from Rev’d Robert Thomas as a thank you.

All Early Years age groups were presented with a certificate and a prize bag with a 50pence. The bags had all been knitted beautifully by Mrs. Hilarie Badger. First prize winners were presented with a medal and a £5 prize while second prize winners had £3 and third prize winners had £2.

A Winners Concert is being organised for Friday, November 10 at the Metropole Hotel at 7pm. All ticket money will go towards the running of next year’s National Urdd Eisteddfod at Llanelwedd.
