THE chairman of Powys County Council Cllr David Meredith, Glyn Davies, MP for Montgomeryshire, and the Mayor of Llanidloes, Cllr Janet Crisp were on hand to flag off route plotter Andrew Thomas, who was number one of the 250 plus tractors, on the sixth Welsh National Tractor Road Run in Llanidloes on Sunday, June 3.
This year, saw Montgomeryshire pick up the mantle of organising the run (which moves around the old counties of Wales) and had participants take part from all over the UK as far afield as Southampton, Yorkshire and East Anglia as well as every corner of Wales.
It included a large contingent from next year’s organisers of the South West Wales Tractor Club of Pembrokeshire as well as a contingent from last year’s organisers Carmarthenshire.
Blessed with perfect weather conditions, the tractors did a 30-mile route touring the communities and views of Glan y Nant, Clywedog dam and reservoir, Cwmbiga, Llwynygog, Staylittle, Llawr y Glyn, Trefeglwys, Bwlch y Gle before returning to Llanidloes.
The run included many varied tractors with the two oldest ones being Colin Lewis of Talgarth’s 1941 International and Tregynon’s Philip Jones’ Standard Fordson. Thousands of spectators lined the route of the charity event which this year was collecting money for Cancer Research UK and the Llanidloes Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
