CLYRO Church in Wales Primary School was thrilled to receive the sum of £3,169 from the Hay-on-Wye branch of the Co-op from their Local Community Fund.
Customers were asked to nominate one of three local causes to award 1% from their membership card points every time they shopped at the Co-op and used their members card.
The primary school has had to move to a temporary site at Clyro Court whilst a new school is being built, so they were keen to have the money to buy in the skills of a mosaic artist who could help the children produce artworks that could be mounted on the outside of their new building when it is finished.
The Co-op team manager, Gareth Ratclifffe and deputy manager Will Lloyd visited the school to present the cheque to the children, staff and chair of governors Mari Fforde.
Mrs Fforde said: “We’d like to pass on our thanks to the Co-op for their continued support through their Local Community Fund, but above all, to everyone in our local community who nominated us, as without their support we wouldn’t have been able to provide this experience for our children.
“It is these kinds of extra-curricular experiences that children often remember from their time at school and they greatly enhance and enrich the curriculum.”
Mr Ratcliffe said “We are pleased to have supported such a good school as one of our community charities. The Co-op has changed over the last 12 months and with customers getting 5% back as well as the community getting 1% back on all Co-op product purchases when you swipe your members card, we look forward to working with other local groups in the future.”
Clyro School pupils will move into the new building after it is completed in May 2018.
