STAFF at Talgarth Co-op have donated nearly £6,000 to two local causes thanks to the store’s customer membership scheme.

Each time a customer swipes their membership card at the store 1% of the total amount of their purchases goes to the local good causes nominated by the staff.

This time the recipients were Gwernyfed High School and South Powys First Responders. Gwernyfed High School received £2,973.25 and South Powys First Responders received £2,995.83.

On hand to receive the money on behalf of Gwernyfed High School were the school’s head girl Meg Griffiths and head boy Ieuan Phillips.

Talgarth Co-op manager Claire Edwards, who presented the money, said the cash was raised by the store over a period of six months.

She said in six months’ time money from the membership scheme would go to three more local good causes.

She said: “Both South Powys First Responders and Gwernyfed High School were delighted with the money they received. They were the only two causes who came forward this time round so the money was split between them.

“I think they were both really pleased because they didn’t expect we’d raise so much money.

“It’s great that the customers can get involved in something like this that helps the community.”
