THE Co-op Hay are joining the Against Breast Cancer (ABC) bra recycling scheme that benefits women everywhere.

This exciting project keeps textiles out of landfill, helps small businesses in Africa and raises funds for their ground-breaking research.

Donations to ABC’s research by their recycling partner, is based on the weight of the bra bank, so more bras means more funds! Every £1 raised is vital in enabling them to continue their work to find a vaccine against secondary spread breast cancer and to look at ways to increase the survival of women and men who have the disease.

Kelly Gibson, ABC corporate partnership manager, said: “We have received very positive feedback from retailers adopting the scheme and great warmth from the public for an idea that helps the environment as well as charity. We urge people to help us today to discover the treatments for tomorrow.”

Penny Colley, team leader, said: “We are pleased we can pay our part in fighting cancer. As a business we are proud to be supporting our local community as well as selected national charities. If anyone would like to donate we are more than happy to help. We can make a difference by working together to help fund the fight against cancer.”

In addition to supporting the bra recycling scheme, Hay Co-op have also taken a collecting tin, so that customers can also donate their loose change.

Anyone wishing to find a local bra bank or who wishes to use the postal recycling scheme for bras, can go to www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk for further information or call Keeley at the charity on 01235 534211.
