ONE of the biggest fundraising phenomenons of recent years saw people from all over Brecon and Radnorshire organising coffee mornings in aid of a cancer support charity.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday (September 29) saw groups brewing cups of tea, tucking into cakes and holding raffles. While stalls sold plants and craft items, all to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the charity that raises money for the patients and families who every year are affected by cancer. One of the earliest to begin was the Lally family’s event at Llanigon, Glasbury on Wye, which began at 8am with breakfast items available for the early arrivals and coffees, tea and cake for those who came along later.
A coffee morning organised at Leysters, Llechfaen, by Philippa Rees had raised £277 by end of play on Friday with more donations expected to come in. Other events included a coffee morning at the Bell Country Inn in Llanyre, hosted by Tracey and Drew Owen with Lynda Price, which raised £947 and an event at the Radnor Indoor Bowling Centre in Llandrindod Wells, organised by the Llandrindod Wells Macmillan Cancer Support Committee which raised £534, as well as an event at Barclays bank in Brecon, which raised £430 and was matchfunded by the bank. Pupils at schools, including Sennybridge and Llanbedr Primary Schools, also got in on the act.
