A Builth Wells committee has managed to raise £720 for a local charity that provides support to people with cancer and their families.

The Hundred House Show Committee put on the event, which raised funds for the Bracken trust, a highly-revered local charity that supports people with cancer.

The event took place on Saturday, October 8, and featured a picnic, dancing, a live band, as well as a raffle.

Tricia Evans, the show coordinator of Hundred House Club, said: “I think the charity itself is something that is known to quite a few local people, it has been around for a long time and has progressed over recent times and increased in support in recent years.

“It is a well-established well-supported charity in this area that gives vital support to local people.

“Other charities that provide similar support are not in the local area, so to have something to that standard in the area is very fortunate.

“Members of my family have used it in the past, so I understand the importance of it I suppose.”

The event itself was attended by around 80 people, who all enjoyed their picnic-style suppers whilst being entertained by Ceri Bevan, local up-and-coming comedian, and Builth Wells band Midway.

It was the first event of its kind held by the committee in two and a half years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The £720 that was raised was presented by the chair of the show, Sharon Davies, as well as Tricia Evans, to Jayne Griffiths MBE, Bracken Trust Fundraising manager, and nurse, Debbie Bufton.
