A cordon will remain in place in Builth Wells as a building is demolished following a fire earlier this month.

Police said that the building on Lion Lane will have to be safely demolished by specialist contractors due to concerns over its safety following the blaze in the early hours of Sunday October 3.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which spread to neighbouring properties, however it did cause the traffic to come to a stop during the night.

While the main road through the town is not blocked, access to Lion Lane - which can be reached via the A483 - is limited.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: “Due to concerns over the safety of a structure following a fire at Lion Lane, Builth Wells, earlier this month, a cordon will remain in place for a number of weeks to allow specialist contractors to safely demolish the building.

“The cordon remains in place following the fire in the early hours of Sunday 3rd October 2021. It is not blocking the traffic flow on the main road (A483) but there is limited access to Lion Lane.

“An assessment of the property showed the building was structurally unsafe meaning it would need to be safely pulled down.

“Police and fire officers are carrying out a joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.”

The force is also appealing for anybody with dashcam or mobile footage or photos from the evening or anybody with information report it to Dyfed-Powys Police.
