POWYS council leader Rosemarie Harris has said she would "very much look forward" to working with Conservative MPs if they are elected in Powys.
Boris Johnson looks to be on course to gaining 50 seats giving the Conservatives 368 and a majority of 86.
No-one is yet making predictions about the two Powys constituencies.
Councillor Rosemarie Harris, the local authority leader, has arrived at the count and said she hopes whoever wins the Brecon and Radnorshire and the Montgomeryshire seats will want to work with her Independent/Conservative controlled authority.
She said: "What I would hope is whoever is the MP they would work with Powys County Council. If it turns out to be Conservatives in both constituencies it would obviously help if it also turns out to be a Conservative government and Powys has great needs.
"We need to keep our young people here, we have problems with access to services like health care and I feel we haven’t had the support from both governments (Welsh and Westminster) we probably should have.
"I would very much look forward to working with a Conservative MP especially if it is a Conservative government, that would obviously be good for the county."
Cllr Harris said she has been concerned that support for agriculture should continue if Brexit becomes a reality but said she accepts even with a Conservative majority Brexit will still be a drawn out process with deals and negotiations still to be had.
She also also said she felt Brexit had dominated the campaign: "I think it probably has but during the election there have been concerns expressed about the future of the farming industry by all candidates."
