Councillor Liz Rijnenberg has expressed her ‘frustration and despair’ at yet another abuse of Brecon's recycling facilities, following a recent dumping of what looked like commercial waste.
Cllr Rijnenberg, who is the county councillor for St Marys ward in which the Canal Road site sits, said: "This is unacceptable, and I despair at the flagrant abuse of what is a community facility designed to be used by Brecon residents for domestic waste only.”
Cllr Rijnenberg’s comments came as a load of what looked like commercial waste including pallets, bin bags and empty cans of cooking oil were left strewn around the recycling bins.
Councillor Rijnenberg said: “When this kind of dumping of waste happens, it creates problems for people trying to use the bins for legitimate purposes because they cannot get to them, and it also costs valuable taxpayers money and council time to clear it up.”
The dumping of the waste was reported by Cllr Rijnenberg who said that Powys County Council would be investigating the fly tipping to try and identify its origin.
The councillor added: “This is not the first time this has happened, but this has to be one of the worst instances of abuse of the facilities in a long time.
“I would urge anyone who recognises this waste or who saw it being dumped contact the enforcement department at Powys County Council so the culprits can be traced.”
