A prolific Powys shoplifter has been banned from entering any Iceland or Spar store in the UK after being handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
Mason Cartwright, 24, of Lon Pinwydd in Newtown, was given the order at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, November 3, after pleading guilty to 11 counts of theft and one public order offence.
The offences took place between July and September this year and involved thefts from Iceland and Spar stores in Newtown, as well as Bradleys Garage on Llanidloes Road.
Cartwright was arrested and charged on October 13.
The Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) also prohibits him from carrying items commonly used to facilitate shoplifting in any shop, such as large empty bags or tools for removing security tags, without a legitimate reason.
He is also banned from concealing goods before purchase, including placing items inside clothing or bags.
In addition to the order, Cartwright was handed a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
PC Barrett, of the Montgomeryshire Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Repeat offenders like Cartwright cause concern in communities like Newtown, and the public rightly feel frustrated by this type of offending.
"The strength of this CBO demonstrates our ongoing commitment to tackling this type of crime and protecting local businesses in Montgomeryshire.
"I'd like to thank the members of staff at the businesses involved for their assistance in us locating and apprehending Cartwright. We will continue to work closely with retailers and partner agencies to identify repeat offenders, bring them before the courts and use the powers available to prevent further offending wherever possible.
“If Cartwright were to breach the conditions of his CBO it could result in a further custodial sentence.
