Crickhowell has been named one of Wales’ best places to live in the latest Sunday Times guide, praised for its strong community and access to the outdoors.
In the annual Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide, Crickhowell is celebrated as popular with walkers and families, with rivers, hills, and trails right on the doorstep. Judges also highlighted life inside town: residents support independent shops, run sports clubs, choirs, and allotments, and take part in local causes, including sending recycled tools to Africa.
The Mayor of Crickhowell, Cllr Paul Evans, thanked the volunteers and business owners that help keep the town a busy and inviting spot for all.
“I’m delighted that once again, Crickhowell has been named as one of the best places to live in Wales,” he said.
“Organisations like the Market Hall and our many community groups are all supported by volunteers, and that is a very important part about how Crickhowell remains an attractive place for people to live and set up their businesses.
“Part of my job is looking at ways in which the town can keep its essential services and key community assets together. Particularly over the course of my Mayorship, bringing in the younger generation has been very important but we need to coordinate them.”
“So bringing fresh ideas to the fore in a way that we can plan to implement them is what has really kept Crickhowell thriving.”
Crickhowell is one of seven Welsh places to make the 2026 list, alongside Aberystwyth, Anglesey, Cardiff: Pontcanna, Cowbridge, Llandeilo, and Usk. Usk took the top spot in Wales this year, with its volunteers planting thousands of flowers, running the annual Usk Show, and keeping more than 60 local groups active across the town.
