A crowd gathered in Ystradgynlais as a fire tore through an industrial unit believed to be a blacksmiths in Heol Maes-y-Dre.
Firefighters and police attended the incident on Tuesday evening which caused Commercial Street to be cordoned off for several hours.
The smoke from the fire, which fortunately didn’t cause any injuries, could apparently be seen for miles around.
Four fire engines attended the blaze from Abercrave, Pontardawe, Morriston and Amman Valley after it was reported to the fire service just after 5pm on Tuesday, June 26.
An eyewitness said the building looked like it had been "damaged extensively."
A spokeswoman for the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "The industrial unit, measuring ten meters wide, was well alight and extinguished by firefighters using six ground monitors, four main jets, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera."
The fire service continued to assess the incident overnight until they received a stop message around 5.45pm yesterday.
The spokeswoman said that the incident lasted over 24 hours as a result of a gas cylinder at the scene.
She said: "The cylinder was not involved with the fire, however because of its location it had overheated.
"We had to cool the cylinder down over a 24-hour period before we could move it.
"We had to set up a system whereby water goes on it constantly, and crews keep going back at assigned times with equipment to monitor it."
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
