AT the February meeting of Dolau WI the speakers were Claire and Paul Lloyd, wildlife photographers from Worcester who showed amazing photos of wildlife in Botswana they had taken as well as more locally in the UK.
They showed the best techniques for taking pictures, making everyone feel they needed to get their cameras out now they knew what some of the features on them were.
The WI hopes to enter the national WI photographic competition of ‘a year in the life of your WI’ and this help was invaluable. The competition brought in probably the most entries ever with a baby photograph of yourself.
Much amusement was had as members tried to identify the bonny babies of yesteryear. Names were taken for various trips, activities and outings, and two novice bowls teams were recruited to enter the County Bowls competition.
Several members of Dolau WI performed in the County Entertainment in Rhayader, cheered on by fellow members in the audience. Names are being taken for a coach trip to the RHS Spring garden show in Malvern on Friday, May 11, everyone welcome, ring 01597 851685 to reserve seats.
The March meeting is an illustrated talk by Roma Watkins of Heartsease on her trip to Tanzania, where, with a volunteer group, she learned among other things, how to build a goat shed.
In April it is the long awaited talk by Dolau’s own Doug Lumley on cheesemaking, when he will make two soft cheeses during the evening as well as bringing along other cheese he has made. These can be sampled, but bring your own wine. Dolau WI meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30 and new members and visitors are always welcome.
