A POWYS school has raised over £1000 for Cancer Research UK after the children and staff held their own Race For Life on the school grounds.

Sennybridge County Primary School held the fundraising event on Wednesday, July 7 and have currently raised £1,170.

The children and staff raced around the field in their bubbles on the day, and were treated to some well-earned refreshments afterwards.

The school was adorned with pink balloons and a fundraising banner was stretched across the gates for the special day.

Headteacher Ashley Bennett said: “I am exceptionally proud of all of the children and staff who have taken part in this fantastic and worthwhile event.

“We all know somebody who is or has been affected by this cruel disease, so working together as a community and school family, has allowed us to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.

“On behalf of the whole staff at Sennybridge, I would like to thank everybody who has donated and supported us. Diolch o galon.”

The Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s biggest series of fundraising events.

Since the first event was held in Battersea in 1994 with 750 female participants, Race for Life has grown into a series of hundreds of events across the United Kingdom, raising nearly £900 million towards beating cancer over the last quarter of a century.
