TWO Breconshire schools have been named among the best in Wales.

Crickhowell High School and Christ College, Brecon are both included in the Parent Power, Sunday Times Schools Guide 2019, that aims to identify the UK’s top performing schools, and which will be published in the newspaper this Sunday, November 25.

St Michael’s School, Llanelli, which Welsh education secretary and Brecon and Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams attended, was named The Sunday Times Welsh Independent Secondary School of the Year.

A 65% A* to B pass rate at A Level, and 27% A* or A pass rate at GCSE, saw Crickhowell ranked as the sixth best state secondary school in Wales and 245th across the UK. Crickhowell had been ranked in 236 in the UK last year.

Christ College was ranked the tenth best independent secondary school in Wales.

The school had a 70.4% A* to B pass rate at A level and 51.9% pass rate for top GCSE grades and ranked 237th across the UK. Christ College rose from 284th place in last year’s rankings.

The 26th edition of Parent Power identifies the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by their recent examination results. A fully searchable national database by school name, local authority, town and postcode, together with regional rankings are available to Times and Sunday Times subscribers at: thesundaytimes.co.uk/parentpower

Parent Power is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country’s best schools. The rankings in the secondary school league tables are determined by the percentage of examination entries gaining A* to B grades at A-level this summer (which is given double weighting) and the percentage of entries returning A*, A grades or GCSE or the 9,8,7 grades awarded in England and also used by many independent schools in Wales.
