We have fought a hard campaign and spoke to more constituents during the campaign than ever before with a focus on what my priorities are for Brecon and Radnorshire for the next Assembly term should I be fortunate enough to be elected and I hope those priorities match the priorities of the people of this constituency and we can look forward to a good result."They are counting as fast as they can and there is not much longer you or I have to wait for the result. "What I understand is things are looking positive and it seems the Conservatives may be getting their excuses in early but let's wait for the result and for these good people to do their job."

02.17 Gary Price, the Conservative candidate, has said he's not giving up hope yet. Mr Price has just arrived at the count and said he is still trying to find out the latest information. He said: "Never throw in the towel. Never give in. As we can see there are still a few boxes to be counted and you never know what will happen."I've just arrived and trying to find out what's happening. Watching on TV at home isn't much cop as there's not much happening on there either, it's a slow process."

02.10 Conservative candidate Gary Price has arrived at the count

02.00 The Conservatives look ready to concede defeat. Peter Weavers, the election agent for Tory candidate Gary Price, said: "It looks as if the Lib Dems are going to take the seat. We always thought we had a tough nut to crack with a candidate who's very high profile and on the television every night. We've given her a very good run for her money."

01.50 Kirsty Williams has arrived at the count

01.45 Matthew Mackinnon, from Brecon, who is the Wales regional director for the EU referendum Vote Leave campaign has attended the count to try and gauge the level of support for Britain leaving the EU.He welcomed the poll that has shown Ukip is on course to win eight seats with the Welsh Conservatives, led by Brexit supporter Andrew RT Davies, set to win 11 AMs.He said: "I've come to see if the Eurosceptic vote is up or not. And Ukip could win eight seats, that is a good sign for us."Mr Mackinnon said the Assembly election had taken momentum from the EU referendum campaign. He said: "It has slowed our election down and taken a lot of excitement away from the referendum but has given us a good indication of where the Eurosceptic areas are and tells us there is a Eurosceptic vote in Wales with Ukip set for eight seats and the Conservatives, led by Andrew RT Davies, to win 11."

00.55 Alex Thomas, the Labour candidate for Brecon and Radnorshire, has acknowledged the party has faced a "tough" election.Mr Thomas said he didn't know if the party would have a good, bad or indifferent night, with a poll showing it on course to lose three of the 30 seats it won in 2011."Obviously we hope to retain all the seats we currently have but it's a very tough election for us a year after the general election and the EU debate that has dominated the national media and that has stopped a lot of the messages getting through and we are still dealing with the horrendous cuts coming down from London."It's a tough election for Labour. I would like to see us hold all the seats we have but realistically it is a big ask."He added: "The polls, if they are accurate and we don't know yet, still have us far and away the largest party in Wales and none of the other parties are yet looking like they are going to make a break through."The candidate said he felt Labour's six key pledges had "gone down very well on the doorstep".He said: "They resonate with what people are looking for in a government and the free childcare for three and four year olds has got people talking."

00.35 Sam Bennett, election agent for Kirsty Williams: "It was a very tough night for us here 12 months ago and across the country the national picture was very difficult."The polls have predicted we'll get two AMs and have predicted that for two years. Kirsty has got a really proven long track record and we hope to win tonight."

23.40 Result expected between 3-4am

23.10 Green Party candidate Grenville Ham joked: "It's not looking like we're going to win."He said the party's main focus is on the Mid and West Wales regional vote: "From our perspective it is the first time we've ever stood in the Welsh Assembly in the Brecon and Radnor seat."It is all a new process but the feeling has been overwhelmingly positive towards us but clearly it is a very, very tactical election. People tend to be voting to stop what they don't want rather than voting for what they truly believe in."For us the regional list is the big thing. We could genuinely win regional seats and we need Greens in the Senedd to keep them honest."22.50 Former Brecon and Radnorshire MP Roger Williams is part of the Liberal Democrat team at the count. He said: "It’s been a friendly campaign and we’ve been well received on the doorstep but we now have to convert that into the ballot box."

An ITV Wales poll is predicting Labour will remain the largest party with 27 seats. Plaid is projected to be the second biggest party with 12 seats, the Tories 11 and the Lib Dems two.
