AN appeal has been made after an elf that was part of a Christmas display at a church disappeared.

The elf, described as "very unusual" was taken from a high window sill at St Gwendoline’s Church in Llyswen sometime between 11am and 2pm on Thursday, December 10.

Yvonne Hepton, the owner of the carpenter elf who is holding a hammer in his hand, said: "I would like it returned to church."

She had loaned the Santa’s helper, one of a set of three she bought for $300 dollars when she lived in Hawaii, to the church for its Christmas Market which is being held this Saturday.

"I was decorating in the church and after I’d left for lunch and came back at 2pm he’d gone from the window.

"We searched through the church and didn’t find him. He was on the high window sill and he is quite ungainly and heavy. You have to stand on the pew to put them up or get them down."

Festive fan Mrs Hepton, who decorates her house near Erwood with Christmas lights, said she had been left upset: "I’m devastated. It’s not an emergency, it’s not a flood and nobody has been hurt but it is the audacity of someone to come into the church and take him. He would have delighted the children and I think it’s disgraceful."
