The Brecon and Radnor Express’ very own reporter, Luke Williams, made an appearance on a recent episode of The Chase on ITV 1.

The episode, which aired on February 17, was recorded in November of last year and saw Luke and his fellow contestants travel to Elstree for the filming.

Luke said: “We stayed overnight in a hotel nearby which was provided by ITV. We were first to film on that day, as I think they film three episodes per day, so we had to be up and ready by 6:30am.”

Luke, Jo, Shirley and Hassan made up Bradley Walsh’s team of contestants which took on Jenny Ryan, also known as ‘The Vixen’, who was the Chaser for the episode.

After correctly answering six questions in his impressive ‘cash builder’ round, Luke went head-to-head with the Vixen to secure his place in the final round. He answered multiple choice questions on mobile devices, the World Series of Poker, George Sand’s autobiography, brandy butter and The Sound of Music to help him edge closer to the jackpot.

Luke was joined by fellow contestants Hassan and Jo in the final round, where they set a high score of 21 to beat. With many pushbacks by Luke and the team, the Vixen only managed a score of 14, securing a rare victory for the contestants. The triumphant team came away with £18,000 to share.

After the show aired on Thursday, Luke said: “It was a really fun day out! I went into it not expecting to win anything, so to come away with the team beating the Chaser was brilliant.

“I’ve enjoyed watching The Chase for years so it was quite surreal turning up on set and meeting Bradley with the other contesteants. Everyone was very friendly and despite feeling very nervous, I didn’t show myself up too much!

“The whole thing backstage runs like clockwork and is very smooth operation.

“If anyone is thinking about applying or is unsure - I’d say go for it!”
