A fabulous festival is being planned at the Willow Globe to mark the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s First Foilo.
The First Folio is the first collected edition of William Shakespeare’s plays, collated and published in 1623, seven years after his death. 2023 is the 400th anniversary of its publication.
The Willow Globe, an open air community theatre at Penlanole, near Llanwrthwl is holding a festival extravaganza over the August Bank Holiday to celebrate the occasion.
The Willow Globe is a scaled-down version of the Globe Theatre in London.
Shakespeare Link and The Wet Mariners present FOLIO FEST.
Kicking off festivities, Willow Globe favourites The Wet Mariners present their take on Shakespeare’s thrilling ‘Coriolanus’.
The following couple of days will be filled with workshops, talks, films and games.
There will be extra-special guest actors - from the stages of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and The Globe, plus a few faces you’ll have seen in some pretty incredible TV and film roles - who will be joining in for a whistle-stop tour of all 18 plays that would have been lost without the Folio.
In collaboration with The School Of Night there will be an explosion of fun for your delight whilst exploring Shakespeare’s route ‘From Stage to Page’. Add to that a Have-A-Go Tempest, dance workshops, calligraphy and printing workshops, panel discussions, ‘Shakespeare and Wales’ with Dr David Cottis, a scavenger hunt and other games - you will not be short on things to enjoy.
The dates for your diary are Saturday, August 26 - Monday, August 28
More information and tickets are available at their website.
