Thousands of visitors flocked the streets of Brecon for the Jazz Festival this past weekend to enjoy an array of music and entertainment. With the sweltering heat, many enjoyed catching up with friends and having a great time, bringing a vibrant atmosphere to the town.

Lots of acts took to stages, on the street, and in pubs to share their music with the crowds.

Organiser Lynne Gornall, told The Brecon & Radnor Express,

“It was fantastic. First thing to say is the atmosphere was amazing over the weekend. We had very good audiences and sold out on our first day of concerts. It’s great because Brecon Jazz is not just a showcase, its a place for musicians to meet with each other and form relationships.”

She went on to say, “I think one Jazz Magazine said, ‘Brecon is back with a bounce and we’ve certainly felt that!”

The majority of the acts came from Wales, with a lot of Brecon talent on display, but the festival also incorporated performers from Bristol, Birmingham, and even Barcelona.

The festival organisers believe they had around 150 musicians perform over the weekend, with the likes of an Acapella quintet, Monmouth Big Band, Terrance Collie, and Simon Spillett with a thrilling quartet, performed over the weekend. After his set Simon Spillett jumped on stage at the Wellington Hotel to perform with Lesley Maynard, offering the crowd an incredible performance.

Trying to be innovative, the team set up new features of the festival such as their online live streaming on their website and their three-day busking programme, which meant that busking performances didn’t clash with stage performances.

The Frazz parade made its way through the town on Sunday and was just one of the exciting events to happen throughout the town. Looking forward to even more performances this coming weekend, the organisers received some great feedback, with one audience member saying,

“You and the team must work so hard to make it all run smoothly (or appear to!) We take our hats off to you. It must have been exhausting especially with the heat!”

The Brecon Jazz team wanted to thank all their supporters, including Brecon Town Council, The Brecon & Radnor Express, Specsavers Brecon, ACW Night out, and all the venues used at the festival.
