By show secretary Kate Todman

PROCEEDINGS opened at 1pm with a warm welcome from the committee chairman, Neil Parry, who then introduced Rob Tyler as this year’s Show’s President.

Rob has been involved with the show for many years and expressed his delight and surprise that a self-professed pig man would be invited to be president.

Rob made an interesting and funny opening speech and then presented the Show Queen Bethan Jones, who looked lovely in her gorgeous dress, with her sash.

Bethan is from Erwood and has recently started a new job as livestock assistant on the Royal Welsh Showground. She accompanied Rob throughout the day presenting cups and prizes in the various sections.

Horse competitors came from far and wide and the judging again took place in two rings.

The children’s riding classes were very well supported. Welsh classes were of a very high standard and the judging was extremely proficient finishing on the dot.

Entries of cattle were good and there was a record entry for the sheep, the quality of animals were superb.

The dog show was popular with 50 entries and the always entertaining dog races were also much

enjoyed. Vintage vehicles were the best ever with excellent displays of cars, bikes and tractors.

A friendly group of bikers added some interesting machines to view.

Children’s sports were as competitive as ever and there was a wide range of stalls and entertainment including a popular vintage swing boat for the children.

The marquee entries this year were excellent and made judging an unenviable task.

The ever popular Glyn Celyn Beagles were admired by all, with many a young person wishing clearly to be able to get properly in amongst them!

The Fur & Feather, in its second year, was very well attended with a good range of furry and feathery friends.

Once again, thanks is due to the generous local businesses for their sponsorship, help and prizes.

The catering by Wheelwrights Inn, Erwood was also much appreciated.
