The family of an 11-year-old girl injured in a suspected hit and run accident have thanked a community for its support.
Summer Sharp suffered two broken legs after she was struck by a car while getting of her school bus near her home in Knighton just days into the new term.
Family friend Tracey Fowler organised a coffee morning at Knighton Community Sports Association Pavilion to help Summer’s parents Carl and Lisa with travelling costs while she was in hospital in Cardiff and to replace her school uniform.
The event, held last weekend, raised £1,315.67 and after discussions with Carl and Lisa it was also decided to donate £250 of the total to the Wales Air Ambulance charity to thank it for the care Summer received on the day.
Mum Lisa said the family has been taken aback by the support received, including from nurses at Knighton Hospital who came to Summer’s aid.
"A lot of thank you’s have been handed out and rightly so but there is just one more set of thank you’s I would like to say and that’s to the police that were on scene that day, the nurses that came out and looked after Summer so amazingly, all the paramedics and the air ambulance that looked after her and the children who were with her on the day that reacted so brilliantly and did everything they could to help Summer.
"The reactions and quick thinking of every single one made a huge difference on what was undoubtedly the worst day of our lives. Thanks to all of you. Summer is at home where she belongs and recovering well. We will never forget what you all did for us”.
Dad Carl said: "We have been overwhelmed by all the support and kind words we have received since the accident. Lisa and I and the rest of the family would like to thank Tracey and her helpers for what she has done and all the people in the town who attended the coffee morning and gave donations."
Tracey said: "Knighton town is amazing.
"I’m totally over whelmed by everyone who helped in what ever way. I’m choked at the response. I wanted to help some friends out in a time of need and my god it has amazed me I can’t say thank you enough, from the bottom of my heart."
