St Mary’s Church is celebrating their recently revealed glorious windows which for many years have been hidden by clouded protective coverings. The project to replace the coverings with a protective mesh in order to reveal the windows to their full glory has been funded by The Friends of St Marys and donations they attracted to the project.

The Friends were set up in 2023 to support St Mary’s to be a place for everyone, welcoming people not just from the congregation but from the wider community of Brecon. The church has ambitious projects to improve the building both on the outside and inside as a versatile space for many occasions and not just as a place of worship. The window reveal was The Friend’s first project that they raised money for. Future projects are being reviewed with The Church’s Vestry Committee.

The Friends of St Mary’s are actively encouraging more people to join at just £25 per year. You can sign up to become a Friend online or pick up a form in the church. Other ways to support The Friends include one off donations or by coming to the Friends-run monthly Speaker Series, usually on the third Tuesday of the month.

Talks coming up range from a reflection on how Christ College, the oldest independent school in Wales is looking to the future, how local resident Windsor Griffiths survived a hijack in the 1970s while Gethin Havard will share stories and the history of The Royal Welsh Show in the year Brecknock is the feature county.
