The family of a “devoted” and “popular” father who was killed in a one-vehicle-crash between Caersws and Trefeglwys Road have paid tribute.

Thomas Wyn Evans from Caersws sadly passed away on Thursday evening, September 16, while driving his silver Ford Transit Van on the B4569 towards Trefeglwys.

It is thought that the 34-year-old’s van left the road - he died at the scene of the collision which happened at around 10.30pm.

Mr Evan’s family said they are devastated by his passing and that he was loved by the whole community.

They said: “Thomas, ’Winnie’ Evans, aged 34, from Caersws, Powys tragically passed away on Thursday 16th September 2021.

“The family are devastated by the passing of Thomas ‘Winnie’ Evans. A devoted dad to his boys, partner, son, brother and grandson. Loved by all his family, friends and the whole community. A truly popular man who worked and played hard.

“A loyal friend to so many. He always had a smile on his face. Quick to help whenever he was needed.

“The messages received so far are testament to how much he was liked and loved by so many. He will always be missed.”

Dyfed-Powys Police released a statement last Friday, September 17, where they also for any witnesses to the fatal incident.

A force spokeswoman said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the B4569 between Caersws and Trefeglwys yesterday.

“At approximately 10.30pm on Thursday, 16 September 2021, a silver Ford Transit van crashed off the road.

“It is believed the van was travelling westbound towards Trefeglwys. The driver, a man in his 30s, died at the scene.

“The man’s next of kin are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.”

Anybody with information about the crash which could help officers with their investigation or anybody with dash-cam footage who was travelling along the road at the relevant time is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police quoting reference DP-20210916-418.
