A MAN who jumped onto a hire boat as it travelled along the canal in Brecon has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A family were left 'shaken' after a man leapt on board the picnic launch boat they had hired to enjoy a trip along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and is alleged to have demanded they carry him.

Dave Allen, of Dragonfly Cruises, who hired the boat to the family, confirmed a man had jumped onto the boat from the bank as it passed under the Brynich roundabout last Friday, June 28 at around 4.45pm.

"They were a family, with children who were either late teens or young adults, and they were a bit shaken by it. They came back here (to the basin) and we made them a nice cup of tea. They gave a statement to the police, as did I," said Mr Allen.
