THE family of a soldier who died after being found unconscious and injured in Brecon town centre have paid tribute to the 20-year-old.

Matthew Boyd was taken to hospital by ambulance after he was found in Lion Street at 1am on Sunday but later died.

The soldier was training in Brecon with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. His aunt Elaine Mawhirk said: "He was completely loved by all the family so much.

"He had such a strong pact with his brothers - they are devastated."

Dyfed Powys Police, which arrested a 23-year-old man on Sunday on suspicion of murder, confirmed detectives have made a second arrest.

The force said another man aged 22 has also been arrested.

The soldier’s family have also posted tributes to him on Facebook.

His grandmother Maureen posted a photograph of him on Facebook and wrote: "We are a broken family today.

"Senselss. No words for the heartache we feeling in N Ireland, Spain and England!"

His brother Darren said: "Broke my heart when I woke up and heard you where gone, but I know you will never be gone for me you will always be in my heart."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Lion Street, Bethel Square, Tredegar Street and High Street area between 12.30am and 01.30am or has any information that could assist with the inquiry to call them on 101 immediately quoting reference number DP-20160508-024.
