A LOCAL farmer and his wife have bought a burial ground for their community after it was put on the open market.

Vince and Elaine Stephens will now put the graveyard at the Bethania United Reform Church, together with adjoining allotments, at Talgarth in trust to the community.

They acted to buy the site after reading in The Brecon & Radnor Express that the Welsh national synod of the United Reform Church intended to sell the land.

The local farmers have loved ones buried at the chapel and wanted to protect the site and make sure burials could take place there in the future.

"We are very pleased to have secured it on behalf of the local people," said Vince.
