Nominations have opened for the NFU Cymru/Wynnstay Group PLC Sustainable Agriculture Award 2026, with the winner to be announced at a new setting for the ceremony later this year.
For the first time, the award will be presented at the NFU Cymru Sustainable Agriculture Conference on Tuesday, June 30, held at Pant Farm near Abergavenny. The event will be hosted by NFU Cymru Rural Affairs Board Chair Gary Yeomans, who will also jointly judge the award alongside Bryn Hughes of Wynnstay.
Now in its sixth year, the award recognises Welsh farming businesses that demonstrate what organisers describe as an “unparalleled contribution” to the economic, environmental, social and cultural well-being of Wales.
Farmers from across the country are being encouraged to apply or be nominated by friends, family or organisations. The closing date for entries is May 25.
Entrants are expected to show a strong commitment to producing high-quality food to world-leading standards, alongside evidence of work to protect, maintain and enhance the farmed environment. The award also looks at how farms contribute to the rural economy, local communities and Welsh culture.
Shortlisted applicants will be visited at their farms for interviews by the judging panel in late May or early June, before the final decision is made.
The winner will receive a £500 prize along with a commemorative accolade.
Nominations are invited from farms and farmers across Wales, who may either nominate themselves or be nominated by friends, relatives, or organisations.
Applications can be made by completing a form from the NFU Cymru website and returning, or by requesting one via email ([email protected]) or telephone (01982 554200) through the union’s office.
More details about the award, along with further information about the union, can be found on the NFU Cymru website.
